My name is Daniela. I was born in Berlin and moved to the Canary Island of La Palma in 2001.
The art of soap making is deeply rooted as a traditional craft on the Canary Islands. In February 2014, I successfully passed the examination before the local craft school commission and the relevant department of the island government, officially recognizing my skills.
Since then, I have been dedicated to the art of making high-quality natural soaps, creating wonderful shampoos, and a range of creamy delights for your skin.
In 2019, I opened my first small artisan workshop for natural soaps and cosmetics: Naturseifen La Palma. Then came the pandemic, and I had to make a decision. My current colleague Anna, owner of the Goldsmith Atelier El Tesoro, and I mustered all our courage and moved together into a beautiful, spacious location in a central area of Los Llanos de Aridane. Here, I run the still only legal artisan workshop for natural soaps and cosmetics on La Palma: Naturseifen MADAY® – Jabones naturales de La Palma. I am very grateful that I can continue to live out my passion and mission for so long and continually improve it.
A special commitment characterizes not only the production of my products but also my everyday life. I place great importance on consistently avoiding the use of palm oil, palm kernel oil, and similar ingredients. Palm oil is used in a variety of foods, cosmetic products, and even biodiesel. About 80% of products offered in supermarkets contain palm oil, while biodiesel is made up of 90% palm oil. Even palm oil from certified organic cultivation is not an acceptable alternative for me.
The long-standing deforestation and burning of tropical rainforests in areas like Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Amazon to make way for palm oil plantations have devastating consequences for the global climate and our environment. Large areas of rainforest are ruthlessly destroyed or burned daily, with far-reaching consequences. Countless species of animals and plants have been irretrievably wiped out and are lost forever. I am particularly concerned about the few remaining wild orangutans.
I encourage you to raise your awareness of this issue. Information can be found on websites such as https://www.orangutan.de/, https://www.greenpeace.de/ or https://www.regenwald.org/. After all, healthy plants and animals have a significant impact on your life as well.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your attention!
